EAGLE VERIFY DOOR USER'S GUIDE
Version 2.0
November 01, 1990
Welcome to version 2.0 of the Eagle Verify Door !! This door
represents several years of development. Eagle Verify Door version
1.0 was release in September 1988 and has had a very successful
track record. The original door was written in Turbo Pascal 4.0 and
used Sam Smith's excellent door developers door kit ProKit. This
latest version has been totally rewritten in Turbo C++, basically
for two reasons. First we had a nasty crash of one of our systems
last year and lost all of the pascal code to ALL of our door
programs. Second, I like pascal alot, but am expanding my
programming ability and use 'C' often in my regular job for uncle
sam, as well as ADA and X-Windows and decide to try 'C++'. Plus I
had the first-rate help of my co-sysop Bob Rinker to help me around
some of the tight spots of the code during development. "Bob knows
'C' !" but I don't thing "Bo does"! Also I want to add that the
door would have never gotten off the ground if it wasn't for Rickie
Belitz of Maryville, Tennessee and his great 'C' door developers
kit called "CKIT". For those that are interested, Rickie can be
reached at his BBS in Tennessee (615) 982-6512. He has some other
great 'C' utilities too besides door kits. Eagle Verify Door
version 2.0 like all the rest of the EagleWare software products
are FREE, however if you'd like user support, and free upgrades
then a one time fee of $15 would be appreciated for my work.
WHAT IT IS:
Eagle Verify Door is a easy and quick way to upgrade your users
without having to voice verify them all. It is for use with PCBoard
(tm) BBS systems. It is currently compatible with PCBoard version
14.5 ONLY ! If you have used other door programs then setup and
configuration is relatively easy for the experienced SysOp. Those
who already are using previous version of Eagle Verify should also
have no problems.
MAJOR FEATURES:
* Optional Local and Long Distance calling.
* Set up to 3 different times a day to allow Long Distance calling.
* Optional switch to insert users "used" phone number into user's
record (Business/Data line phone number field).
* Optional switch to insert comment into user's record comment
field 2 showing user verified.
* Stores all phone numbers dialed into a database file. Used to
"lock-out" already verified users.
* Areacode database file to "lock-out" certain area codes the sysop
does not want to make long distance calls to.
* Prefix database file to "lock-out" certain prefix numbers from
being used, such as 976, 911, etc.
* Optional switch to allow door to set subscription expiration
dates.
* Phone number database compatible with PCBVerify's (tm) phone
number database file. Uses only the first 12 characters.
* Automatically upgrades new users security level.
* Optionally add additional time for new users first call.
UPGRADE INFO:
Those SysOps already using previous versions of Eagle Verify Door
should start off from scratch and make a new directory for which to
install v2.0 of the door. The ONLY file you will need from your old
door directory is the VERIFY.FON file. Eagle Verify Door is
completely compatible with previous VERIFY.FON files. There is an
example VERIFY.FON file included in the ZIP, be careful not to
overwrite your old copy if your upgrading.
SETUP:
See the SETUP.DOC and EVCONFIG.DOC file too for more information.
First create a directory for the door.
Example: MD C:\PCB\DOORS\EVERIFY
Copy the Eagle Verify ZIP file into the newly created directory and
unZIP it.
Example: PKUNZIP EVD20.ZIP
The PKUNZIP will extracting from within the ZIP file. Once the
files are all unZIP'ed take time to check over the *.DOC files.
They contain information for use and setup. Run the program
EVCONFIG.EXE to setup how the door will function and operate. See
EVCONFIG.DOC for information concerning the use of this program.
Next check out the EVERIFY (no extension) file that is used by
PCBoard to run door programs. You can use this one or create your
own, just make sure you use the example so the door will operate
correctly. Place this file in the same directory as PCB145.EXE or
where ever your PCBOARD main program is located. Modify your
DOOR.DAT or DOOR.LST file to include Eagle Verify Door as an
external door program. Modify your DOOR and DOORG files as well to
show that Eagle Verify is now an available Door program for new
users. See the SETUP.DOC for an explanation of files used in
conjunction with the door. If you have been using previous versions
of Eagle Verify Door, then copy your VERIFY.FON file into the
necessary directory with this latest version of the door. It is
completely compatible with the older VERIFY.FON file. See examples,
CALLERS and VERIFY.FON file for changes.
CREDITS:
I would like to thank several SysOp's here in Jacksonville, the
Telephone Exchange BBS, Energy Service BBS, C.S.I Giga Free BBS,
ASGARD BBS, HHDC BBS, Generic BBS, System_Support BBS in Atlanta
Ga, for beta-testing this program and for providing an EagleWare
users support conference on some of these FINE boards.
I especially want to thank Kim Namanny (C.S.I. SysOp) and his wife
for putting up with us and the late nights that he and I spent on
the phone (both voice and data) testing the door and pounding at
the keyboards, testing this configuration and that. Without Kim's
help we'd never gotten the door off to a start.
I also want to thank my wife, who's patients is that of a saint and
my to children (Kelly and Josh) who kept me going with the soda and
beer runs to the frig.
Last but certainly not least, Bob Rinker, co-sysop of the Eagle's
Nest BBS here in Jacksonville, Fl. For all his help around all the
tight spots in the 'C' code. The Verify Door and accompanying
programs are the combined efforts of both Rick Prince and Bob
Rinker.
THE FINE PRINT:
Eagle Verify Door is FREE. However, a $15.00 contribution results
in user support from the program's author, Rick Prince, in the
EagleWare conference on these fine (FREE) BBS systems:
